10th Annual AEC Culture Fest Moves to Chattanooga Market

The Arts & Education Council’s 10th annual Culture Fest will be Sunday, September 27, at the First Tennessee Pavilion. It will be held during the Chattanooga Market from 11 AM to 5 PM.  All activities are free and open to the public. Children: Our Future Leaders

In this episode of Point of View, we will be speaking to guests from On Point, New Beginnings, and CBI Counseling Center.  They will each share valuable insight on the issues children and adolescents face in today’s society such as anxiety, cyber-bullying, texting, and “sexting”.  Many of these issues focus on the tremendous rise in technology seen recently and how it has taken peer pressure to another level.

Our guests will also discuss small steps adults should take to become more aware of what is going on in the lives of children and adolescents. Some of the solutions suggested in this episode are: more adult supervision, additional structure, family values, and most importantly listening to what children have to say.

Chattanooga’s Climate Control Action Plan

In this episode of AEC’s Point of View, there will be guests discussing Chattanooga’s Climate Action Plan.  This plan, a 120+ page document which was completed in January 2009, will explain how Chattanooga is working to lower our carbon footprint by reducing greenhouse gases in our area. Guests will be sharing their outlooks and opinions about how Chattanooga is doing its part to achieve sustainability.

Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics

In this weeks episode of Point of View, we will be discussing the NAACP’s Academic, Cultural, Technological, and Scientific Olympics, also known as ACT-SO.  ACT-SO is a competition of the arts and sciences that was founded in 1977 in order to encourage African American high school students through recognition and scholarships.

We will speak to individuals who have participated in ACT-SO and won at both local and national levels in areas such as vocals, oratory, and playwright.  They will share their experiences in the competition and the inspirations that led them to the challenge.
