New Gun Legislation

In this episode of Point of View, Booker T. Scruggs discusses the controversial issues surrounding new legislation allowing guns in both bars and parks. There are conflicting ideas and opinions of individuals who feel the legislation is simply supporting the Second Amendment of the Constitution versus those who believe it is a violation of personal safety.

This episode will also explore why more people are actually applying for handgun permits and whether or not everyone is trained accordingly before being allowed to carry a handgun. Then, proper training techniques will be examined in the discussion.

Money Matters in a Recession

Governor’s School of Prospective Teachers

In this episode of AEC’s Point of View, Booker T. Scruggs discusses the Governor’s School of Prospective Teachers at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. A brief history and mission of the organization is given along with how students become members through GPA requirements and extracurricular activities.

Mr. Scruggs also interacts with members of the audience who are prospective teachers by asking them about their background and why they have decided to enter the profession.

First View July 2009

AEC’s television show “First View” explores very different avenues of artistic expression in the July 2009 episode.  To start, Katrina Craven from the Hunter Museum of Art discusses their summer exhibits. Jellies: Living Art is a joint exhibition between the Hunter Museum and the Tennessee Aquarium with pieces at each location. Also, there is an exhibit entitled Window on the West at the Hunter which explores the real American west through the eyes of various artists.

Next, AEC features the AIM Center, a psychiatric rehabilitation facility in the Chattanooga area. They have many exciting topics to discuss including the celebration of their 20th anniversary and their Fine Arts Program.  This program is therapeutic to members through art expression and is followed up by creating an exhibition of their art.

The final topic of the July 2009 “First View” is AEC’s Artamajig, a fundraiser combining both culinary and fine arts. There will be a silent auction of works by local artists to take place at the Tanner Hill Gallery on Thursday, July 16, 2009. For more information on this event, visit Artsedcouncil.org.
